This class is open to students in Forms 2A through 5. We will begin at the beginning and take a gentle approach with the text, sometimes pausing to teach or firm up grammar concepts. We meet for three terms, each 10-11 weeks long, the last week being reserved for exam and celebration. Classes are 30 minutes, and an additional 30-40 minute time slot should be allowed for assignments each week. During the first year, many students will need significant support at home.

"In the midst of moving, sickness, and the art of integrated living and schooling with a family of 9, Magistra Bucko helped us to stay on track with the gentle and engaging method provided by Scott and Jones. Gratia, Magistra Bucko!"

"This was our first year using CMEC, and Magistra Bucko has been such a great addition to our homeschool week! My two older kids (Form 2 and 3) have been studying Latin very slowly over the past few years with Mr Linney's book, but with Mrs. Bucko's guidance, using Scott and Jones, they have made huge progress. When I first saw the Scott and Jones book, I was very intimidated, and she has made it so accessible. If the children are struggling with a concept, she is so good about slowing down or giving extra attention to it before moving on. In the introduction the book mentions that a girl, after just a short time using Scott and Jones, was walking along the street and described something she saw in Latin. I thought to myself, that's so nice, but really???? Well, now my kids do it too! Thanks, Magistra Bucko, for all your help and support this year!"

"Latin is the subject I've always wanted to add to our homeschool, but I've started and stopped many times over the years. Since I don't have a background in Latin, I tried many of the commonly recommended courses and videos with my kids, but filling in workbooks and passively watching recordings was such a dreary experience that we never stuck with the lessons for long. After our very first lesson with Shannon Bucko, my students and I were reading, translating, and understanding simple sentences! The Charlotte Mason approach, which asks students to do the mental work of puzzling out meanings and making connections in a more immersive setting, is especially appealing to my teenage sons, who don't feel "talked down to" in a beginner class. In fact, my oldest son (a senior in high school) rearranged his spring community college schedule to be sure he could continue on with Latin for the rest of the year. Since I have five students at home, the Viva Voce class is a huge help because I'm learning alongside my kids each week and becoming confident that we can learn Latin together."

"Magistra Bucko's Latin class has been a true gift to our family. I have no background in Latin and knew that attempting to guide my oldest child through it myself would likely lead to much frustration. I am so thankful to Magistra Bucko for offering this option, which is allowing my daughter to make peaceful progress in this subject in a way that supports the whole of what we are doing in our homeschool."

"After three years of unsuccessful attempts to implement Latin in our Charlotte Mason homeschool I was ready to throw in the towel. Enter Magistra Bucko. She has facilitated our study of Latin with the use of Scott & John's text in an engaging manner such that our learning is finally producing fruit! It has been exciting to learn alongside my sons as they make real headway at last." – Dawn Duran, CMEC parent, 2021
